What is Voyager?

Voyager is a unique search solution which combines a comprehensive knowledge of geospatial data with web style search, allowing you to easily locate the GIS data, maps, layers and other resources that you need without having to worry about where they are stored.

How does it work?

Voyager is easy to configure and easy to maintain. Voyager’s click-through installation is simple and straight forward. One installed all that you have to do is tell Voyager where to look for data. The location could be as easy as pointing it to the root level of your own hard drive or restricting it to a projects and data directory on your own machine or on a server. Once Voyager knows where to start the rest happens automatically.

Has Voyager indexes your data it also generates thumbnails and provide you with an intuitive, web based, user interface where you can use full-text or geographic extents to define your search. Voyager exposes its unique knowledge of GIS data to allow you to explore the relationships between map documents and datasets. Voyager uses it’s unique knowledge of GIS data to populate it’s index -- it can do this with or without metadata support.

What type of data does Voyager support?

Voyager supports a wide range of GIS data types including scanned maps, satellite imagery, elevation models, vector data, CAD formats; as well as server resources, such as data stored in ArcSDE™ technology, ArcGIS Server™ and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) formats such as KML, WMS, WFS.

Voyager is also aware of document formats such as ESRI ArcMap™, ArcCatalog™, ArcGlobe™, ArcScene™ and ESRI Layer Files. By indexing GIS documents, along with the data that they use, Voyager allows you to both understand where your data is, how you use it and perhaps most importantly reuse the cartographic design investments that you’ve already made through a various GIS document types.

How can I get Voyager?

Voyager is available in four version

Voyager Personal - manage the GIS data on your local computer.

Voyager Workgroup - designed to be used by a team working on projects or in a small department. Voyager workgroup allows you to incorporate server based GIS resources into your index and operates in a scalable environment allowing it to grow with your evolving needs

Voyager Enterprise - the best solution for large organizations building enterprise class spatial data infrastructures where a customized solution is needed along with the ability to aggregate multiple Voyager indexes into a federated geospatial search solution.

How to get started:

  1. Download Voyager
  2. Using the administration dashboard tell Voyager Discovery where to look for data
  3. Participate in the Voyager Community to share ideas with others

Software Requirements?

Voyager is composed of two parts; first, an index and web user interface; secondly, a data discovery solution for locating and then analyzing geospatial data sources and documents. Each aspect of Voyager has the following minimum requirements:
